The History and Lore of Runes
The origin of the word “rune” stems from the Germanic languages, and has been translated to the word “mystery” or “secret”, with similar findings being present in Old Irish Gaelic, Welsh, and Old English, Lithuanian, and Finnish - with meanings ranging from miracle, poem, whisper, and to speak,
Runes were a system of letters and symbols used before the Latin and Roman alphabet. Norse rune stones have a full and entrancing history, and were highly respected and used with extreme caution. It was believed that runes held strong divinatory powers and were considered to hold a significant presence..
For us, runes are used to connect to your intuition and knowing, a connection to your ancestral line. Runes can also be used as a way of foretelling an outcome or simply a confirmation that you are on the right path. In this practice, Runes hold similarities to the use of tarot cards.
We crafted this book from our years of using runes to guide us through motherhood, business, and life in general. While the book leans into the truest meaning of each rune, the interpretations and sources are personal and original. Pulled from our use, history, and innate understanding, it is one of personal discovery and interpretations.
